UBTEB Modular Assessment
UBTEB Modular Assessment
Uganda National Examinations Board in collaboration with experts from the world of work and training institutions has developed assessment syllabi and tools for Diploma Programmes that will be implemented alongside the existing curricula.
According to the Executive Secretary UBTEB, Mr. Oyesigye Onesmus (CPA), during a training workshop on modularization of the assessment said that, the developed modules are by the approved curricula. “ all the modules developed are identified from the approved curricula developed by National Curriculum Centre or National Council for Higher Education”, Onesmus said.
He added that, this is part of implementation of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) reforms inline with TVET Policy OF 2019. This Policy promotes modularized training and assessment of technical and Vocational education in Uganda.
Further more, he noted that, the modularization of the Programmes is done by the approved curriculum by the mandated bodies in Uganda.
Mr. Oyoo Peter, the Principal Assessment Officer, in the Department of Business and Humanities also added that, the development of the assessment syllabi for business and humanities has been finalized and that they will be rolled out in the 2024/2025 academic calendar.
He further added that, National Technical and Vocational Diploma Programmes in addition to modular assessment syllabus for Uganda Community Polytechnics (UCPC) Certificates and 13 National Technical Certificate programs are in progress and will also be rolled out soon.
In a related development, Uganda and Technical Examination Board successfully conducted its first modular assessment of the piloted technical certificate Programmes during the July-August 2024 examinations series across the country.
During a feedback workshop held at the secretariat, Onesimus stated that, the modular curriculum and assessment is a true reflection of the government’s agenda to address the critical skills gap. More so, it provides a more flexible and convenient manner using sustainable approaches in the TVET delivery and assessment.
